Recruitment for Fire Protection Board

VENTURA, Calif. – The County of Ventura has begun the recruiting process for one regular seat on the Fire Protection District Board of Appeals. The Board is intended to hear appeals and determine the suitability of alternate materials, types of construction, and reasonable interpretations of the provisions of the District ordinances except those dealing with the abatement of combustible or flammable materials, such as Fire Hazard Reduction (weed abatement).

The open position is for one of the five seats. To be eligible for the position, an applicant must have the following qualifications:

  • Resident of Ventura County
  • Licensed Architect
  • Experience and training on matters pertaining to hazards of fire, explosions, hazardous conditions or fire protection systems
  • Is NOT an employee of the Ventura County Fire Protection District

Meetings to hear appeal cases are held on Mondays when needed. Members are not compensated for their service but this volunteer position fills a vital role in the County’s service to the public. Members generally serve a two year term, and may serve more than one term. Members are required to obtain two hours of Ethics Training every two years.
