VENTURA, Calif. – Ventura County Probation Agency Chief Mark Varela has announced the promotion of Supervising Deputy Probation Officer Melinda Cross to Division Manager.
Cross started with the agency in 1990 as a student aide. In 1993, she was promoted to a Corrections Services Officer position at the Colston Youth Center (CYC) and was then promoted to Deputy Probation Officer, serving in the East County Misdemeanor Probation Supervision (EMPS) unit, Youth Services-Oxnard and the West County Felony Supervision units. In 1998, Cross was promoted to Senior Deputy Probation Officer and served at the Juvenile Restitution Project, CYC, EMPS and the Clifton Tatum Center (CTC).
Continuing her climb through the ranks, Cross was promoted to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer in 2003 and has served at CTC, Juvenile Facilities (Special Functions, Juvenile Intake and Community Confinement), East County Juvenile Services and, most recently, at the Oxnard Field Services unit.
She earned her master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge in 2010, her bachelor’s degree in Law and Society from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1993, and her associate’s degree from Moorpark College in 1991. She is an accomplished instructor in Standards and Training for Corrections.
Cross’ promotion will be effective April 24, 2016, and she will be assigned to the Juvenile Facilities Operations Division.
