VENTURA, Calif. – County Executive Officer Mike Powers has appointed Johnson Gill as Director of the Ventura County Health Care Agency. Gill is currently serving as the HCA Deputy Director for Population Health and Clinical Integration. He will formally assume the Agency Director position upon the retirement of Barry Fisher on October 2, 2016.
“Johnson was selected following an extensive competitive recruitment of outstanding internal and external applicants,” said Powers. “He has a strong background, through advanced education, training and experience in a broad range of clinical, fiscal and administrative aspects of health care.”
At the County, Gill has played a critical role in positioning the Ventura County Medical Center and the Health Care Agency for future success in the rapidly changing field of public health care, transforming programs to improve their quality, efficiency and value in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
“In his time with the agency, Johnson has already proven to be adept at galvanizing a broad coalition of public and private community providers to develop groundbreaking proposals to address long-standing challenges in health care in the areas of dental services and improving care for the most frequent utilizers of health care countywide,” said Powers. “In this process, he has shown a sincere ability to listen to and engage the community. He has a tremendous passion and commitment to the agency’s mission of providing access to top quality, compassionate health care, especially to those facing barriers in our community.”
Prior to his position with the HCA, Gill served for five years as Associate Hospital Administrator at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in San Bernardino County, a 475-bed Tertiary Trauma Center. In addition, he served in multiple other executive management, clinician and educational positions prior to his time at Arrowhead Regional. Johnson is a licensed physical therapist and has been an instructor at Loma Linda University for more than eight years. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, Master of Physical Therapy Degree, Master of Public Health Degree and Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, all from Loma Linda University.
