For example, the Ventura County Elections App was developed for the County Clerk and Recorder’s Office to make election information available to the public on their iOS and Android mobile devices. In addition to receiving real-time election returns, users can check their voter registration status, eligibility to vote in an upcoming election, view their sample ballot for the election, see a map of their polling place and more.
“There is a wealth of data available from County agencies and departments,” said Mike Pettit, Director of IT Services. “We’re using technology and innovation to bring that information to the public we serve on their smartphones and other devices. Some of the apps we’re developing ourselves, and some are being developed by outside companies with our direction, but all of the apps are getting good information out to the citizens of Ventura County.”
With the Ventura County Animal Services Mobile App, users have the ability to browse through photos and descriptions of the hundreds of animals available for adoption and save them in “favorites” categories. Users can search for specific types of pets and save that information as a notification so that when a pet matching that description becomes available, the user will be alerted.
There are also apps for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the Ventura County fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services. There are even apps that let you check out the inspection record of a restaurant or the condition of your favorite beach.
VC SafeDiner is a quick and easy way to view the latest inspection results for your favorite food facility in Ventura County. The app allows you to search by name, address or city; and also provides a map feature allowing you to view food facilities within a radius of your current location. VC SafeBeaches shows the latest ocean water quality testing results for your favorite beaches in Ventura County. The app allows you to search Ventura County beaches by name or map location.
All of the free apps can be found in the Mobile App Gallery on the County’s website - http://www.ventura.org/mobile-apps-gallery - and are available to the public from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
