Government Center solar panel installation

VENTURA, Calif. – Construction began at the government Center on October 23, 2015 on a solar panel installation that will provide about 10 percent of the electricity used at the facility.

The construction of the one-megawatt photo-voltaic system is being overseen by the County's Public Works Agency. The estimated annual energy output for the solar array is equivalent to providing electricity to about 150 homes.

The solar array is being built in Parking Lot F. During construction, parking in Lot F will be limited. Signs will direct visitors to available parking in Lot F and other nearby lots. Visitors are advised to plan ahead for delays to allow time to find parking.

The solar panels will be placed on a canopy over the parking lot. When the project is completed in March 2016, there will be more than 500 shaded parking spaces.

Because power from the sun is free energy, an additional one-megawatt system is planned for the Juvenile Justice Center near El Rio, further reducing the County's use of electricity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
